The HSE has issued advice on keeping well and warm as the cold weather sets in for the winter, and has called on friends, neighbours and relatives to keep in contact with older people around them.
Advice includes eating well and avoiding unnecessary travel and encourages people to ensure older relatives have sufficient supplies of food and prescription drugs that they may need.
Something else to consider is having enough appropriate fuel supplies for heating the home to avoid running out of heating supplies should very bad weather come along.
Fall prevention is also highlighted with icy roads and footpaths becoming problematic when temperatures drop. Wearing well-fitted, non-slip footwear can limit the risk of a fall as well as having regular eye-tests to maintain good vision.
